Η Αλεξάνδρα άνοιξε το στόμα να εξηγήσει. Ήθελε να πει για τα σχέδια που είχαν απλώσει στο τραπέζι, για τις ιδέες που την ξυπνούσαν τα βράδια, για τη χαρά που ένιωθε όταν κάτι δούλευε επιτέλους — μετά από δέκα αποτυχημένες προσπάθειες. Αλλά τα λόγια σταμάτησαν στα χείλη της. Πώς εξηγείς κάτι που δεν φαίνεται;

A children’s book for ages 6–12, free, in Greek and English, narrated on every page.
Heroes: Crocus & Sparken
Old friends don't understand why they spend so much time on their project. A story about the loneliness that doesn't hurt — when you know who you are.
You aren't alone because not everyone understands you. You are simply on your path.
It was Saturday afternoon and the square was buzzing with life. Voices, laughter, a ball bouncing in rhythm against the concrete, the smell of warm sesame rings drifting from the little bakery on the corner. Alexandra, Philippos, and Eleftheria were making their way through the crowd of children, their arms full of materials — wires poking out of bags, batteries, notebooks with crumpled corners and pages covered in sketches.
"Going to the workshop again?" shouted Yiannis, an old classmate, stopping the ball with his foot. "Every single Saturday? Don't you ever get bored?"
Alexandra opened her mouth to explain. She wanted to tell him about the designs spread across their table, about the ideas that woke her up at night, about the joy she felt when something finally worked — after ten failed attempts. But the words stopped at her lips. How do you explain something that cannot be seen?
"Forget all that," said Maria, a girl who was once her very best friend. "Come play with us. Like old times."
Like old times. Two words that weighed like stones. Because old times don't come back. And they shouldn't.
Philippos hugged the materials tighter against his chest. He didn't get angry — and that was the strangest part of all. In the old days he would have turned red, shouted, maybe even thrown something to the ground. Now he simply felt a gap between himself and his old friends. A quiet gap, without any meanness in it, a gap that no words could fill.
Eleftheria didn't speak at all. She pressed her books to her chest, smiled politely at Maria, and kept walking. Her silence was not weakness. It was her first act of maturity.
As children grow, they follow paths that not everyone understands — not friends, not relatives. This brings a particular kind of loneliness. Our role is not to convince them everyone will understand, but to show them that understanding themselves is enough. Try today: ask your child 'Is there something you do that makes you happy, even if others don't understand it?' Listen without judging.
