Ανάμεσα στον λόφο του Γκεντιμίνα, στο ποταμάκι Βίλνια και στο μοναστήρι των Βερναρδίνων απλώνεται ένα μεγάλο πάρκο. Πήρε το όνομά του από τους Βερναρδίνους μοναχούς. Τον 15ο αιώνα έχτισαν εδώ κοντά εκκλησίες και ένα μοναστήρι, και έκαναν τη βαλτώδη γη κήπους με λιμνούλες και κανάλια. Από το 1799 εδώ ήταν ο βοτανικός κήπος του πανεπιστημίου. The Bernardine Garden — A park with a fountain and giant chessboard in the warm season
Between Gediminas’ hill, the little river Vilnia and the Bernardine monastery lies a big park. It is named after the Bernardine monks. In the 15th century they built churches and a monastery nearby, and turned the marshy ground into gardens with ponds and canals. From 1799 the university’s botanical garden was here. Later the park changed its name many times, and local people called it Sereikiškės. In 2012–2013 it was made again from scratch and got its old name back. In the middle, in a flower garden, there is a fountain that moves to music and lights up on evenings in the warm season. There are a playground and tables for chess and draughts. In the warm season there are also a carousel and a giant chessboard with big pieces. The city says the oldest oak in Vilnius, about 400 years old, grows here too. The park is open every day. In December the fountain will probably be off, and the sun sets at about four. But from here you can see the hill with the red tower, and the Vilnia flows along the edge of the park.
