Στο Μεγάλο Κανάλι υπάρχει ένα παλάτι που σταματά απότομα μετά τον πρώτο όροφο. Άρχισε να χτίζεται τον 18ο αιώνα, αλλά τα χρήματα τελείωσαν και οι πάνω όροφοι δεν χτίστηκαν ποτέ. Έζησε εδώ τριάντα χρόνια με τους μικρούς της σκύλους και τους πίνακές της, και άνοιγε το σπίτι της στους επισκέπτες. The Peggy Guggenheim Collection — A palace that was never finished, full of modern art
On the Grand Canal there is a palace that stops abruptly after the first floor. Work on it began in the 18th century, but the money ran out and the upper floors were never built. That is why it is low and wide, between tall neighbours. In 1949 it was bought by an American woman, Peggy Guggenheim, who loved the art of her own time and bought works by painters many people then laughed at. She lived here for thirty years with her little dogs and her paintings, and she opened her home to visitors. Today it is a museum, with works by Picasso, Kandinsky and painters who poured and dripped paint onto the canvas. In the garden there is a stone with the names of her dogs. On the terrace over the water, a bronze statue shows a rider with his arms spread wide.
