Κρυμμένο σε μια μικρή αυλή, πίσω από στενά δρομάκια, υπάρχει ένα παλάτι με μια πολύ ασυνήθιστη σκάλα. The Snail Staircase — A staircase that curls like a snail’s shell
Hidden in a small courtyard, behind narrow lanes, there is a palace with a very unusual staircase. It is not inside the house but outside, in a round tower with white arches, and it climbs round and round, like a spring. It was built at the end of the 15th century for a rich family, the Contarini, who wanted to show everyone how modern and elegant their home was. In the Venetian dialect "bovolo" means snail, and that is where its name comes from: if you look at it from below, it looks like a snail’s shell. You can climb it to the very top. Up there you can see the roofs of Venice, the domes of the basilica and St Mark’s bell tower, and you will understand why the owners were so proud.
