Σε μια μικρή πλατεία της παλιάς πόλης, ανάμεσα σε καφενεία, στέκεται μια πέτρινη βρύση με κολόνες. Την έχτισε το 1626 ένας Βενετός διοικητής, ο Αλβίζε Ριμόντι, και πήρε το όνομά του. Από τρία σκαλισμένα κεφάλια λιονταριών τρέχει νερό σε λεκάνες από πέτρα. Εκείνα τα χρόνια τα σπίτια δεν είχαν βρύση στην κουζίνα, και οι κάτοικοι έρχονταν εδώ με στάμνες για να πάρουν νερό, να κουβεντιάσουν και να μάθουν τα νέα της πόλης. Αργότερα, οι Οθωμανοί πρόσθεσαν από πάνω έναν μικρό τρούλο, που σήμερα δεν σώζεται ολόκληρος. Το νερό τρέχει ακόμα, και τα παιδιά βάζουν τα χέρια τους κάτω από το στόμα των λιονταριών. The Rimondi Fountain — Three lions have been spouting water since 1626
In a small square of the old town, among cafés, stands a stone fountain with columns. It was built in 1626 by a Venetian governor, Alvise Rimondi, and took his name. From three carved lions’ heads water runs into stone basins. In those years houses had no tap in the kitchen, and people came here with jugs to fetch water, to chat and to hear the town’s news. Later the Ottomans added a small dome on top, which does not survive whole today. The water still runs, and children put their hands under the lions’ mouths. Look at the columns around the fountain: they are carved with leaves, in the same style as the palaces of Venice, because the rulers wanted their town to look like that city.
