Στην ανατολική πλευρά του λιμανιού υπάρχει μια σειρά από ψηλές πέτρινες στοές με καμάρες, κολλημένες η μία δίπλα στην άλλη. Είναι τα Νεώρια, τα ναυπηγεία των Βενετών, χτισμένα στον δέκατο έκτο αιώνα με πέτρα από την περιοχή. Κάθε στοά ήταν σαν ένα τεράστιο γκαράζ για ένα καράβι. Εκεί μέσα, κάτω από στέγη, οι τεχνίτες έφτιαχναν καινούριες γαλέρες, τα μακριά πολεμικά πλοία με τα κουπιά, και επισκεύαζαν τις παλιές τον χειμώνα, όταν η θάλασσα ήταν άγρια. Όταν ένα πλοίο ήταν έτοιμο, το έσπρωχναν από την ανοιχτή πλευρά της στοάς κατευθείαν στο νερό. Κάποτε υπήρχαν δεκαεπτά στοές. Σήμερα σώζονται επτά, και μέσα τους γίνονται εκθέσεις. Σε μία από αυτές φυλάγεται η «Μινώα», ένα αντίγραφο αρχαίου πλοίου που ταξίδεψε μέχρι τον Πειραιά με κουπιά και πανί.

The Venetian Shipyards — Stone vaults where the Venetians built and saved ships
On the eastern side of the harbour there is a row of tall stone vaults with arches, side by side. They are the Neoria, the Venetian shipyards, built in the sixteenth century. Each vault was like an enormous garage for one ship. Inside, under a roof, the craftsmen built new galleys, the long warships with oars, and repaired old ones in winter, when the sea was wild. When a ship was ready, they pushed it out of the open end of the vault straight into the water. There were once seventeen vaults. Seven survive today, and exhibitions are held in them. In one of them the "Minoa" is kept, a copy of an ancient ship that sailed all the way to Piraeus.
