Το πιο παράξενο θέαμα είναι όμως στη στέγη: ένα αληθινό αεροπλάνο Douglas C-47 κρέμεται από την άκρη του κτιρίου, με τη μύτη έξω στον αέρα. Αυτός ο τύπος αεροσκάφους κράτησε ζωντανό το Δυτικό Βερολίνο το 1948 και το 1949, όταν οι δρόμοι προς την πόλη ήταν κλειστοί και όλα, από αλεύρι μέχρι κάρβουνο, έμπαιναν πετώντας. The Deutsches Technikmuseum — An aeroplane hangs off the roof, out over the street
The museum sits on the old goods yard of the Anhalter Bahnhof, where trains were unloaded all day long. Two round engine sheds survived and are now packed with trains, thirty-three tracks running out from the middle like spokes. The strangest sight, though, is on the roof: a real Douglas C-47 aeroplane hangs off the edge of the building with its nose out in the air. Aircraft of that type kept West Berlin alive in 1948 and 1949, when the roads into the city were shut and everything from flour to coal had to be flown in. Children called them “raisin bombers”, because some pilots dropped sweets on little parachutes made of handkerchiefs. Next door is the Spectrum, where everything was built to be touched.
