Ο τρούλος της είναι σκεπασμένος με χαλκό, κι ο χαλκός με τη βροχή και τον χρόνο πρασινίζει· γι’ αυτό το χρώμα του δεν το διάλεξε κανείς, το έφτιαξε ο καιρός. Στον πόλεμο χτυπήθηκε άσχημα και οι επισκευές κράτησαν δεκαετίες: ξανάνοιξε το 1993, χαμηλότερος από πριν. Μπροστά του, στο γρασίδι του Lustgarten, στέκεται μια τεράστια γαβάθα από γρανίτη, σκαλισμένη από έναν και μόνο βράχο. Τελείωσε το 1831, έχει άνοιγμα σχεδόν επτά μέτρα και ζυγίζει περίπου εβδομήντα πέντε τόνους. Την είχαν φτιάξει για να μπει μέσα στο διπλανό μουσείο, αλλά βγήκε τόσο μεγάλη που έμεινε έξω. The Berliner Dom — A green dome, with a stone bowl parked in front of it
The church is younger than it looks: it was finished in 1905, when Kaiser Wilhelm II wanted Berlin to have a church as grand as the greatest in Europe. Its dome is covered in copper, and copper turns green with rain and time; nobody chose that colour, the weather made it. The war hurt the building badly and the repairs took decades: it opened again in 1993, lower than it had been. In front of it, on the lawn of the Lustgarten, sits an enormous granite bowl carved out of one single boulder. It was finished in 1831, is almost seven metres across and weighs about seventy-five tonnes. It had been made to stand inside the museum next door, but it came out so big that it stayed outside instead. Behind you stretches the Museum Island: five museums on one island in the middle of the river.
