Το Άμαγκερ Μπάκε είναι ένα εργοστάσιο ενέργειας που δουλεύει με σκουπίδια. Τα οικιακά απορρίμματα εκατοντάδων χιλιάδων ανθρώπων καίγονται εδώ σε πολύ υψηλή θερμοκρασία· η θερμότητα βράζει νερό, ο ατμός γυρίζει έναν στρόβιλο, και το εργοστάσιο στέλνει έξω και ρεύμα και ζεστό νερό, που τρέχει μέσα σε σωλήνες και ζεσταίνει σπίτια σε όλη την πόλη. Amager Bakke — A rubbish-burning power station with a ski slope on top
Amager Bakke is a power station that runs on rubbish. Household waste from several hundred thousand people is burned here at very high temperature; the heat boils water, the steam turns a turbine, and the plant sends out both electricity and hot water, which travels through pipes and warms homes across the city. The smoke passes through filters that catch most of what would otherwise go into the air. What made it famous is the roof. The architects argued that if a city puts a huge industrial building next to where people live, the city owes them something back. So the roof was built as a hill: a ski slope more than 400 metres long that works all year on a plastic surface, a path for walking up among planted trees, and on one flank a climbing wall the full height of the building. It opened to the public in 2019. From the top you can see Sweden.
