Εκεί χτίστηκε οχυρό μάλλον τον 10ο αιώνα, και ο θρύλος λέει ότι από αυτόν τον βράχο η πριγκίπισσα Libuše κοίταξε το δάσος και προφήτεψε μια πόλη «που η δόξα της θα αγγίξει τα άστρα». The Vyšehrad fort — A rock with a legend on it, and now a park
Three kilometres south of Prague Castle, a second rock stands above the Vltava. A fort was built there probably in the 10th century, and the legend says that from this rock Princess Libuše looked out over the forest and foretold a city “whose glory will touch the stars”. Legends are not history, but they show what a city wants to believe about itself. The oldest thing still standing here is the small round church of St Martin, from the 11th century. Beside it rises the basilica of St Peter and St Paul with its two pointed towers, and behind that the cemetery where many famous Czechs lie, among them the composers Antonín Dvořák and Bedřich Smetana. Today the grassy ramparts are a park, with the widest view in the city and almost no crowds.
