Ο Minčeta στέκεται στην πιο ψηλή και πιο εκτεθειμένη γωνία του τείχους, εκεί που η στεριά πλησιάζει περισσότερο. Ξεκίνησε το 1319 σαν τετράγωνος πύργος, σε οικόπεδο που έδωσε η οικογένεια Menčetić, και από εκεί πήρε το όνομά του. Ύστερα άλλαξαν τα όπλα. Όταν τα κανόνια έγιναν αρκετά δυνατά ώστε να σπάνε τοίχους, ένας τετράγωνος πύργος έγινε επικίνδυνος: η μπάλα χτυπάει την επίπεδη πλευρά κατάματα και σπάει την πέτρα. Ένας στρογγυλός πύργος όμως γλιστράει τη βολή στο πλάι. Έτσι η Δημοκρατία κάλεσε τον Φλωρεντινό αρχιτέκτονα Michelozzo, που τύλιξε τον παλιό τετράγωνο πύργο μέσα σε έναν καινούργιο, στρογγυλό, με τοίχους περίπου έξι μέτρα πάχος. Ο Δαλματός μάστορας Juraj Dalmatinac, από το Ζαντάρ, τον τελείωσε το 1464 με το ψηλό στεφάνι που βλέπεις σήμερα.

The Minčeta Tower — The highest point on the whole of the wall
Minčeta stands at the highest and most exposed corner of the wall, where the land comes closest. It began in 1319 as a square tower, on ground given by the Menčetić family, which is where its name comes from. Then the weapons changed. Once cannon grew strong enough to break walls, a square tower became a danger: the ball hits the flat side head-on and shatters the stone. A round tower, though, lets the shot glance away sideways. So the Republic sent for the Florentine architect Michelozzo, who wrapped the old square tower inside a new round one with walls about six metres thick. The Dalmatian master builder Juraj Dalmatinac, from Zadar, finished it in 1464 with the tall crown you can see today.
